My role in writing grant proposals
The extent of my responsibilites ranged from coordinating the entire proposal, including developing the idea, assembling a team and managing the budget, to writing specific work packages.
The table below includes examples of successful grant proposals where I made a significant contribution.
| Project | Area | Total award (€) | Notes | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Trans form | Cancer nutrition | >650K | I developed the idea, assembled the team, and coordinated the submission. | I was notified that the grant was successful as I was leaving academia. I handed over the project and it is still active. |
| RUBUS Elite | Sports nutrition | >600K | I wrote a core 4-year work package as a principal investigator. | The project was completed and I was the primary supervisor to a PhD student who successfully graduated. |
| Fulbright scholar | Infant nutrition | 20K | I wrote the proposal to support a year-long research project. | The project was completed successfully and I published multiple papers during my time at UW-Wisconsin. |
| Dairy dry | Protein powders | >2mil | I wrote a core 4-year work package. | I wrote a complete work package while a post-doc and co-supervised an MSc student who completed the work. |
I worked on many other proposals during my time in academia. While a PhD student, I wrote an entire proposal for an MSc project on mineral processing over a weekend. The proposal was successful although I went uncredited (common for PhD students 🤷).
Below is an example title page from a proposal I successfully coordinated, prior to my departure from academia:
